Busted a caliper piston

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Buddy Hawks, Jul 11, 2013.

  1. Hey

Does anyone know who sells caliper pistons i had one stuck and ended up snapping the lip when i was getting it out (it was comming out as well). I have checked cool air, jk, gsf, ebay and Heritage.

No one seems to sell them

    Cheers

Lesson learned the hard way, they come out with a bang - you need a piece of wood in there to catch it.

  5. I got 4 pistons and seals from brakeparts.co.uk just 2 weeks ago. Great quality and they were the only supplier I could find that sold proper Girling seals, rather than claiming the ATE ones are the same!

  6. how do you get the grease out?

Pushing the brake always works for me ,they are tough but I have done the same with a screwdriver...

Grease gun method is for people who remove the caliper before wondering how they'll get the pistons out. ;)

  8. Just did this worked a treat many thanks, the grease gun screwed into the threads for the brake pipe union

  9. Air line and brake cleaner cleaned it out, it only held a bit in the caliper, the caliper piston was seized in its hole pumping the brake was only moving the outer piston

So you clamp the outer one and the inner comes out. ;)

I had my fingers in my first one. Doh!

  13. I've a friend that used the "grease gun method" to unstick his Rolls Royce's siezed engine..........................problem was that the piston he chose, was at BDC.
Sudden LOUD BANG..................and large pieces of piston skirt in sump, and the conrod bent like Boomerang!!
Be careful, my friend is a very experienced mechanic, and safe to say, nobody was more suprised than him:oops:

It does rather depend how hard/fast you press the pedal as it clears the seal.
I've chipped one and bruised my fingers, so yes you do. :)

  17. The one with the grease gun was tame compared to the one i got out with my air line, nearly pooed myself
