bus loses power when warmed up, shifting from 1st to 2nd

  1. HELP! My '77 bus is doing weirdies. Runs great for 20-30 miles, then loses power - feels like all of a sudden no fuel. Will catch and run again after several seconds. usually happens when I shift from 1st to 2nd. Never happens when idling. This cycle of run - stall - run repeats itself, with the amount of "run" time between stalls getting smaller and smaller, till it won't run at all. Let it sit a few hours, and it will run again, same thing. Today, though, I was able to limp it home by going only 2-3 mph. If I went any faster, I got the stall routine. New coil, new fuel pump & filter, new lines, rebuilt engine runs great. Except for this! Thank you in advance. Please email me at UtahKitty@gmail.com

  2. sounds like she is being starved of fuel, could be poo in your tank, tank out for a good clean through ;)

  3. Try taking the float out and clean thethe little spindle that it swivels on it could be sticking. And filling the chamber slowly

In line with what the others have said it sounds fuel related.

Not knowing the history of your van and and assuming you have carb/s here is what I would do.

    - check your fuel filter if you have one. If it at all dirty then I would change it.
    - if your hoses look dodgy at all then change those too.
    - see how it runs now.
    - if still bad then check the filter again. If it already got a load of crap in it then the tank will need to come out and refurbed or replaced.
    - if the the filter is clear then the carb/s need cleaning. Depending on when last done you could use a rebuilt kit too. Get the carb/s off and clean thouroughly. Blow out all the jets and fuel galleries.
    - refit carbs and try again.
