  2. I'm with him too. It's a nightmare driving at noght now and I have noticed that you can buy illegal lights on evilbay that say not for road use. I try and avoid night driving now and I used to like it.

I didn't use to have a problem driving at night, but it has got worse now. Even high up in my Tranny I get dazzled. Around town I'm okay, but country roads I sometimes struggle to see the nearside verge due to being blinded.

I got bought some yellow clip on lenses for my glasses but I've only tried them a couple of times - so far they seem to help.

Would it help if each relay was wired witha separate live for each relay?

  5. No ;). You're still driving left and rights from the same source.

    But harder, on a motorcycle.

If I'm in the camper and the car behind is lighting up my rear view mirror, it's lights are not dipped are they? But by todays standards they are or everyone is driving around on high beam. Quite often I wave to highlight this and once the car behind went onto actual full beam for a second to show me. What the heck is going on?

Like Low and Slow I avoid night driving now, there are too many times when I simply can't see if there might be a pedestrian or a bike or a slow moped dragging along in the gutter on my side.

I think the trouble started decades ago when manufacturers added a headlight adjuster in the cab for setting the aim dependent on load and people just aimed them high and left them because obviously they could see better. That, I postulate was the beginning of the light wars.

  9. My bus has lights need updating but I use the force or something like that anyway I thankfully get there safely most of the time, even considered candles in jam jars

  10. There’s a really old grey 2CV knocking around Stretford with yellow lamps. Looks ace. I think I’m gonna do mine yellow...

  11. Notice new vehicles with lights consisting of multiple LED strips actually turn off the respective headlights whilst the indicators are being used. So you are down to a single headlight if you are courteous enough to indicate before you turn.

Terrible design that, how did it get through safety criteria for vehicle approvals?

I drove mine the other night and on the country roads could not see very far ahead at all. Last time I drove down to dads at night I switched from A roads to mway as my lights were so poor (or my eyesight)

I agree with being dazzled by lights, even after they’ve been dipped. I have started not dipping my vw or Citroen headlights when I’m dazzled as I’m pretty certain my main beams are worse than dazzling dip beams.

Last time i had bobbins lights on my Devon it was due to the actual headlamp and not the bulbs.

  13. I don’t often drive the bus at night but did last night.
Being left hand drive with lhd headlights I noticed on full beam, which is no brighter than dip, the left hand lamp is angled up nicely to illuminate the kerb or hedgerow and the right one slightly lower and straight forwards shows the white lines or catseyes. They’re not bright enough to bother oncoming traffic so left them on full , works well!

Father in law bought a volvo V40 , i used it to pick him up from the railway station one night , and most on coming vehicles flashed at me and it was not on full beam .
Told father in law, and said you want to get the lights set up coz they are deffo to high .

Main beam would have been fit for Stalag luft on an watch tower .
Volvo said they were spot on .

  15. Many years ago driving through France a traffic cop asked me if my lights were adjusted for driving abroad. I said there was no need as my van is LHD. That might have been nonsense but he accepted it anyway. But I was glad that my lights are so dim you can't tell if they've been adjusted or not.

I never take my bus out at night unless i have eaten 1/4 pound of carrots ...like Dunc say's just leave them on full beam , then you are nearly up to the level of normal dip .

It’s obvious why everyone is getting dazzled and it has nothing to do with HID or LED headlights. Nobody bothers to use dipped beam.

Wonder how many of us are beginning to develop cataracts.... you've no way of knowing unless you have a regular eye test.
