  1. Brake cylinder bust on my rear axle n/s assembly, is shoes not discs ,there is plenty lining on said- now soaked with brake fluid- linings ,now my mate said he would burn the shoes to remove the fluid so allowing me to re use them ,I have heard of this being done but never known anyone that's actually done it ,what say you guys? worth the hassle, or into the bin they go?

I too have heard of it being done, however is it really worth the risk? they can't be that expensive surely? I'd bin them myself, a bit of brake cleaner if they weren't too bad is as much of a risk as i'd take.

  8. Yeah , I agree with the bin them opinions, its just the friggin waste of lining ,now ,I have to ask myself ,as said bust cylinder has a twin on other side ,do I change that one too ,as if they were both fitted at same time, the as yet unbust one may be similarly ready to pop? see my logic? re this , like if one of my shoelace breaks , I do replace both , and ive read if only one is replaced there is an unbalance of sorts in system ?

  9. Have a look at the other one - peel back the rubber boot on the end of the cylinder and see if there is any sign of brake fluid behind the boot. If there is, the cylinder is on the way out, so change it before it goes.

  10. Change both cylinders, bin the linings.

  11. I used to get up to all sorts of shenanigans like this when I was extremely poor, so it CAN be done BUT DON'T do it! You're running all sorts of risks with swelling linings, linings detaching, contamination and sudden failure.
FFS a new set for both sides is less than £25! And as steveagain says, I'd change both cylinders as well, especially as they're less than £20 each.
With fitting kits etc it's going to cost you £75 but think of the cost of crashing your bus or even worse..................

  12. I'd burn them, just to see what happens :D

It'll entertain you while your waiting for new linings & brake cylinders to arrive

Oh and don't forget to video it for the rest of us pyro's :D

  13. Not much to be honest, the paint burns off quickly, the fluid burns yellowy and after they've cooled down and you've cleaned them, they rust like Billyo.
