    Hello

I had the wheels off for the first time in ages to inspect the brakes. all was good with no leaks, scores and plenty of meat on both the shoes and pads. Drums looked great as did the discs.

Put every thing back on very happy until next drive. The brake pedal moves up and down a fair bit on braking.
I suppose I may have moved a shoe when removing the drum and it will bed in over time.
Do you think it could be anything else? Maybe the drums were worn in a particular way and I put them back in a different position.
    Any advice?
    Cheers

  2. Generally a warped disc or drum, ask me how I know  Top tip don't leave the handbrake applied with hulk force for 3 weeks, it warps drums.

But they were fine before i took them off. Serves me right for trying to do the right thing.

Take them back off and clean the hub up particularly where the centre of the drum meets it. You perhaps noticed while putting the wheel(s) back on that one or more nuts seemed to need a bit more spannering than the others?

I warped my reproduction drums by heating then up, driving around with the adjuster just a tiny bit too tight. I went back to the originals as they are rounder.

Make sure you have the M7 (11mm head) pair of bolts holding the rear drum on, and its on straight. Sometines left off as they interfere with some alloy wheels.

I did that once too. I tapped them with a soft mallet to get them off but doubt it was that.

Forgot that if u ever take the drums off, you have to re adjust the shoes (once you’ve put the drums back on) even if you were just looking. All is well again. School boy error!
The lesson here is if it all works as it should and there are no funny noises, just leave it alone!
Does anyone want to say ‘if it ain’t broke.......’

Properly adjusted rear shoes should bring the pedal up firm if there is no air in the system.
Make sure the handbrake cables are loose when adjusting which will also help in the handbrake lever having a shorter pull when readjusted.
