Bumper mounts

  1. I have. Late bay with no bumpers. I also have no front deformation panel. After discussing with vw heritage I think I will buy late bay bumpers. I just need a way of attaching. They suggest fabricating a front mount to go between chassis and late bay bumper. They say there is no other mounting available that would work. Is this correct? Could an prototype bay mount be modified to fit a late bay bumper or is metal fabrication the only solution?

  2. i have a crossover bus ....the bumper mount via 2 holes under the front of the bus ,same at back ...the mounts are quite wide ....r u in london .....u could come over and check as my bumper are in the shed .could offer em up and see how they fit mate

  3. If your bus is a 'true' latebay and originally had the deformation panel (which has been removed at some point) then you're not likely to have any where to mount the brackets to on the bus.

Late bay bumpers are made to fit directly to the defomation panel, you could try to use crossover brackets, but they may have to be modified, extra holes made in the bumper and filed out to a square for the coach bolts. You will then have to make a threaded mount on your front chassis legs - either by welding in a captive not of putting in nutserts/rivnuts.

If your by IS a cross over, then you may already have the mounting holes in your front chassis legs. In which case it would probably be easier to fit an early front bumper and crossover brackets.

  4. If you have a late bay you might be better off fitting a deformation panel.
The bumper is designed to sit away from the front panel so there will be quite a big gap.
Also the deformation panel is there to give some sort of crash protection.
