Bumper Bolt Woes

  1. Hello,

two questions. I bought some new bumper bolts which are all good, however I also got some of the little white caps for the front ones. I can’t get them on! Is there a special trick or are they just really hard to get on? The bolts I bought were these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152633803408

secondly, on the rear bumper (underneath) where the bumper bolts to the body, I seem to be missing a thick looking bolt that attaches the bumper to a bracket so it’s a bit wobbly. Tried to point it out on the pic but as the van is in storage that’s the best description I’ve got!

    thanks in advance

The original bolts on the front have a bit of a shoulder under the bolt head so there's a bit more room for the cap to fit. I found even with the correct bolts that the repro caps split after a short period of time anyway so I went with the kit you have (stainless) and left the front without the cap.

The brackets at the rear attach to the chassis through two captive nuts; one in the chassis rail and one at the bottom of the D pillar. It's possible the nuts have rusted free so there's nothing to attach it to. You may need to take the bumper off to get a good look. I fitted a rivnut to mine where one was missing.

There should be two m10 diameter 17mm head bolts through each bracket underneath at the back.

May just have come undone or forgotten- in this picture it shows two bolts, the standard U-section bumper bracket is sitting further back on my setup going into a third hole as the towbar occupies the two holes to the left. Normally the bumper bracket would go on the bolt by the oil hose and the bolt to the right of that (where the spiders stuff is dangling ... ) 20210401_193700.jpg
