I'll find a very shallow cap and all will be well.

Luckily it's quite easy to get it off the b post without making a mess, in no way is it integral with the post.

I was thinking of doing mine with a recip saw...the last time I ground a flange, my tool was all over the place...made a right mess

 

No ! Grind away at the tube and twist round and sit on something solid .

 

I did mine with a grinder........ It's not as neat as @zed's

 

ive seen your front passage

 

I cut all but 10mm or so with a grinder then picked off the rest.
