Bugger, think i've killed both my campers batteries

  1. Just checked them this morning after 6 weeks sitting.
Main battery at 9.7V and Leisure battery 7.88v.:(

Any idea if they'll charge up or am i looking at buying 2 new batteries?

The only thing connected to the leisure battery is the car radio memory and the alarm to the main battery.

Who knows if they'll accept a charge?
Plug 'em in and find out!
    Hopefully they'll be fine.

  3. leisure batterys are designed to have that happen to them anyway so should be fine , starting battery suck it n see .

  4. Lost my leisure battery like that last month -it was down to 6 volts - gave it a charge for several days - but only got it up to 11volts .

  5. Main battery is on charge now. Charger won't charge at the lower 2A rate for some reason (maybe the switch is dodgy?) so its charging at 4 or 6A.
Leisure battery will charge with my solar panel when i can get the van out of the garage (and its not pishing with rain).

Can't afford to replace both so fingers crossed they aren't dead.

  6. If they're not "Maintenance Free" batteries, check the fluid level and top up with distilled water if necessary. Then use the oldest trickle charger you can find as modern smart chargers may not charge a battery that flat.

Depends . If they were left for more than a week you will need new batteries either now or have trouble soon even if they take a charge,
Even if they get up to charge they will have no capacity.

    Disconnect them completely another time.

  8. Your local car battery place may test them for free.

Get the main one charged up, re fit in the van and take to battery place. You should find out how many cranking amps it holds etc. I've just done this with mine, it only had 150 cranking amps and it should have been 640! So i need to change it. I can thoroughly recommend Bosch for ca batteries. Mine is well over 10 years old and has only just 'failed'.

They can also test the leisure one, but it has to be out the van.

I thought my lesiure was knackered, I slow charged it then got it tested and they told me it was at 70% of original, so I didn't change it, that was last year and it still seems fine.

  9. Main battery was charged most of yesterday and then given an hours run and this morning its still registering 12.34v so it may be OK.
Leisure battery was just charged on the run then it sat with the solar panel putting charge into it for a few hours and reads 12.17v this morning.

  10. Sounds like they're resurrected.

  11. should be OK if you've got them over 12 volts. See what they are like after standing for 24 hours and then after delivering a start.
