bug not behaving, any suggestions?

  1. Sorry to put this on here but we don't do vzi etc.

The bug engine pulls really well, drives ok, ticks over perfectly. It goes up through the gears and is pretty smooth and quick. The problem I'm having is after I've slowed down in gear or even just eased off the throttle. When I re-apply the power it doesn't want to go. It seems like it is starved for a few seconds. I don't think its over fuelling / choking as theres no smoke . If I apply the clutch then let it out ( maybe for 2 seconds, letting it tick over) its much better and I can then apply the throttle.

Its a 1600 bus engine? solex carb. I replaced the rubbers(manifold) I thought maybe sucking air in,yesterday, as they were old and cracked. It has an electric fuel pump, ive been told its a really decent one.

Any help, suggestions would be appreciated, please remeber I am not very technical. Cheers Adam

I'm no expert, what about the vacuum from the inlet manifold to the servo..do bugs have servo assisted brakes?

  3. tooooooooooo technical. ha ha. I don't know, havn't seen anything that resembles a servo unit though? I will find out.

I don't think it anything major , its just a niggle that eating away at my whole being and taking over my life, ;)

It will be a simple issue, things like this usually are!!

  5. job done. Having not done anything like this before, I decided to have a go with the carb, at least if I did this I could tick this off the possibilities list.
Bought a carb kit, took carb off and set to on the kitchen table. Followed some destructions I found on the net, Rob and Daves vw pages. Took carb apart, cleaned it , replaced bits, put it back together, stook it on car and it now runs great. I know to some of you this is probably a minor job, but I am chuffed to bits.

It seems that the problem was the vacuum diaphram, worn and split. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
