Do you mean for the gas tank?? If so yes. Don't forget to fit some jubilee clips. You'll need 8 for the pipes behind the firewall.
Hi Birdy yes I was going to replace the fuel lines, have been putting it off as I am new to mechanics and found it a bit daunting . However I have just refurbed my carb and it's all starting to make sense I have for the past year ( since purchase)had a oily petrol smell so wanted to replace the braided fuel lines, also there aren't any clips on any pipes fuel or breather so they need doing. Breathers on top of the tank though are a bit different as I think the engine needs to come out to get behind the firewall Thought I would start with the fuel lines and visible breather pipes Also don't have a jack or axle stands at the moment so on the look out for some Thanks Al
If you have a T4 engine you will be able to do the pipes for the gas tank with the engine in situ. It's a bit rights and you will be lucky to come out of it without a cut or 3 on your hands but it is possible.
Is it still possible though? Can I get the firewall out with the engine in, I don't have the expertise at the moment to remove the engine
If you remove the fan housing as all bits associated in that area you can but for what it's worth it's far easier and quicker to remove the engine. Engine out in 30 mins. To remove all those bits: HOURS!!!!
Ha ha 30 minutes you say, not sure I could do that . Plus if my wife came out and I had the engine out on my own she would freak
it only took me about 1/2an hour to remove my engine and i had never done anything like that before 8 bolts and a few weires and pipes to pull off
Yes yes yes! the fuel breathers fill with fuel when you brim the tank or go round bends. Better safe then a burning fire ball in my opinion ;D ;D
I agree that VW never fitted clips on the breather hoses, but then they never fitted fire extinguishers in the engine bay, but every one agrees that it's a good idea. IMHO if your replacing the hoses, why not fit clips. belt and braces approach
Snooty having seen the damage caused by an electrical fault in a couple of aircooled VW's I disagree with your statement. It's not just fuel lines that cause fires. This however goes for all vehicles. And IMHO it's suicide not to have fuel lines clamped. Each to their own l suppose.
