Breakdown Cover...

  1. Hi All,

Not had to buy breakdown cover for a while.. the quote from AA comes in at £240 -
Quote covers 2 Drivers, 3 cars (09 Passat, 06 Punto & 79 Camper) for Breakdown, national recovery and Parts/Garage cover...
Believe parts & garage cover is similar to extended warranty and covers £500 worth of repairs..

So my question would be how does that fair? ??? It is alot of money :S

Quite like the sound of Parts and Garage cover.. specifically for the Passat and Punto with their engine management etc

Appreciate you taking the time to read this.. :)

    Thanks
    Kris

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

I would forget the AA if your thinking of going across the water anytime as they don't.

  3. We have no plans on going over the water for the a while yet..
Only to enjoy as much of our little island as possible for the next couple of years :)

    Is the price comparible?

  4. Go through quidco and you will get money back. 55 quid at the moment.

  5. Ahhh.... That's cool...
Would nearly make the camper free, as price jumped from £180 to £240 when that was added...

    Thank you...

Out of interest is there anyone else you'd recommend?
Had a look at RAC.. But they don't seem to offer parts/garage cover?

  6. got full insurance cover for 190 with cvi
and had to test the aa cover the other day top class it was aa!

  7. It's probably the parts/garage cover thats making it expensive. Interesting idea though, what does it cover? I guess there must be exclusions/limits

  8. It says it covers up to £500 of repairs.. for up to 8 claims per year.. (for the 3 cars... for single car it is 5 claims standard I think)
Haven't taken the policy out yet so, haven't gone through fine print to find out what exclusions are..

Does anyone use 'Home Start'? is it worth getting? ???

  9. I had that £500 cover last year and used it once, and the AA had all these stupid rules. You have to take it to a garage that is VAT regisitered and the little one that i use is not (i think they have to take more than £100,000 per year). You have to pay the first £50 of the bill and the £125 policy and in my expericance a break down has never cost £175 to fix so i did get it this year and i swapped to the RAC becasue the AA are robbing scum bags

  10. I only have breakdown for the bus and that is only for the national recovery £70 with AA

  11. Try you insurance company, the cover on my camper includes UK and European breakdown. I don't know how they can cost it in as it costs me less to insure the camper than the AA wants for a years equivalent breakdown cover

Cherished ins offer cover at £27 on top of your classic policy , my Mrs gets the same with her mx5 cover .

  13. Thanks all,

Was looking at it as a 'catch all' cover as warranty has expired on both main cars...
And as the quote seem to be £99 for each of those this didn't seem to bad for the 3 cars?

Think some more looking is required

    Cheers

  14. yuep look aruond mate do some research i saved 300 this year but had hassle from jkampers cvi are really good old fashion service and aa was spot on

  15. Parts cover is well worth while with some vehicles -
We had a fuel pump go on an Isuzu engine, was quoted over 2K for a new one, got a recon one for less than half that, and AA paid £800 towards it.
As far as I know it covers all the vehicles that you own, but as previously posted, the garage has to be VAT registered , and authorised by the AA to carry out the work...

  16. I thought that if you had person cover it did just that, covered the person in whatever car? Am confused as to why you'd need person AND specific car cover, or am I reading your post wrong??

  17. Alright guys I'm trying to get some breakdown cover online with RAC but it comes up with invalid vehicle due to its age, I know people on here have RAC cover how do you get around this?
