Had the budget cv boots which are available from all suppliers around 6 quid each. They will obviously happily refund etc. We all know my bus hasn't moved from the spot. Can anyone suggest which boot to buy that isn't extortionate amounts? I used molybdenum grease as normal.

  4. Wow, that's quite impressive considering it hasn't moved.

I think the problem is that the cheaper places bought them in bulk many years ago.

They have sat on a shelf, in far from ideal conditions, for a long time.

You buy them "new", but actually they are quite old.

also a lot of new rubber has less rubber in it than a rubber johnny - which has none as it's latex.

How much is acceptable to pay as a general opinion on the subject? I can get 4 new originals for 40 each. But to me that is a lot of dough for something that will perish at some point in the future anyway.

  7. That includes the CV joint as well though doesn't it?

No idea. You would think so. I only need the rubber boot really.

Any idea on what to go for?

  9. I've put my money on the NOS South African VWH ones, not cheap but hopefully will be worth it, I'll let you know in 10 years;)

It's ok having a refund for Crap goods . They know they sell Crap goods . So will they also compensate for lost time such as waiting for postal delivery and fitting time .... I doubt it .
It should be a consumer right that such compensation is paid

Yeah its true but I fitted them took me an hour or so to do. For a trained mechanic it could be 15 mins. How do they calculate the loss?

Maybe I will pose the question, but the seller is a good friend who works there and don't want to be an ass.

To be honest I meant in general .I am only 3 years into this enthralling scene but it seems everything I buy for the van is appalling quality . I have posted to this effect a few times, likewise with the scene tax.
I have pushed on here a few times for a area where we can post bargains or good alternative non scene tax purchases but it's not materialised .....yet ?

It's a good idea, and I think most people are up for it, but it takes time to set up and this forum isn't a professionally supported enterprise, so may be a while away.

If you factor in the ongoing surveillance of @rickyrooo1 to guard against him falling from grace again, it'll take a while.

    Sometimes you pay crap money.

It's infuriating when you pay top doller and still get crap though..

  18. The new genuine vw audi ones that were on my complete shafts i fitted four years ago arnt rubbery they are like hard plastic , very hard actually .I was a bit dubious at the time and had a couple of calls to vw n the assured me they had been tried n tested by vw. They are still on and like new , you can wipe the carp off them too if you go thru muddy field or what ever , with damp cloth with no fear of tearing , its suprising ive had two different MOT garages coment how good they seem to the cheap carp they see these days .
I even bought a set of new rubbers off @1973daisey couple of years back as spares thinking they would probably go but they are still in their boxes in me garage , perhaps i should have a look at them , they are mele ones i think ?
