Brake warning light

  1. My brake warning light has now decided to stay on...
Thought I’d check the handbrake switch, I’m obviously a bit dim as I can’t find the thing .
    Where is it ?

  2. Isn’t this going to be a hydraulic switch in the brake circuit?

  3. Didn't think that was part of the warning light system.. but dont have one so could be wrong. One of the switches on the master cylinder not working probably

  4. Some buses do have handbrake warning lights, they work using the same type of contact switches that your interior lights use to tell if the doors are open. If you have one then it will be below the dash, just behind the T shaped handle of the handbrake and will be obvious when you pull the handbrake towards you. If you just have a rectangular hole then that's your issue - the switch has fallen down the back into the dashboard.

  6. Definitely don’t have one there, the light always went off when I took the hand break off though !

  7. Maybe its a loose or uninsulated connection to the brake pressure switches on the master cylinder. The metal rod of the handbrake may disturb the wiring when it is moved in/out. Have a look up and behind the handbrake mechanism and see of any of the wiring can be tidied up or tucked out of the way. Might be worth replacing the brake pressure switch/s as they are only cheap.

  8. ...or it may be telling you one of your brake circuits has actually failed...

You definitely had one there if the light went off when you released the handbrake. It's probably hanging in there behind the handbrake shroud. It should have a brown wire attached that goes to earth and a green/white wire that comes from the dash warning light.

Nope. You're right there. Are you sure the warning light came on with the handbrake? If it did there has to be a switch somewhere.

  12. Is idea of the brake light module not to come on and then go off again if all’s well?

  13. Turn the engine on, light was lit, release the handbrake light went out.

Hmm. So for that to happen there has to be a switch somewhere behind there I'd think.
