Brake warning light...

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lardy, Aug 22, 2012.

  1. Looking for some advice....so where else to look eh? '73 Devon is what I have.
I am hopefully nearing completion of the phase called electrics!! Grey hair or what!!
I appear to be missing a component known as the 'dual circuit brake warning light', and not quite sure why I haven't got it? I did have an illuminating green light thingy in the dash but had two connectors on it which doesn't appear to be anything like what I'm looking at in the books. Mmmmnnnn confused!
So questions......., what should I have, what does it look like and where can I get one?....please. If you've reached here and pure still awake, thanks for helping.

Who says you're missing a dual circuit brake warning light?

Where on the dash is the green light with no connectors - got pic?

  3. Is it possible that I may not have had one then?
The lamp I have is an aftermarket green lamp with two connectors on the rear, no pics.

you can probably discount the green one, a p/o probably fitted it, brake warning light is red and it is possible you never had one, the warning light would be on the dash.

  6. Take a look under the van at the brake master cylinder. If there's only one switch on it, you won't have/need a brake warning light.

  7. Ok will have to look tomorrow, cheers guys!

Uk early buses dont have a warning light
us vans and some of the later vans have them

  9. Thanks guys, will check it first thing tomorrow and put the question to rest. Shame the van ain't outside the house!!!

  10. The brake warning light was an option from what i can work out.
My 73 westy has one, though its a bit pointless really all it appears to tell you is if the brakes have failed which you'd find out by pressing the pedal.

  11. Lol, cheers Zebedee..
On a plus note, I've found the light switchy thingy and also fixed a problem with connections on the two switches on the servo. Thanks for your help guys!! Appreciat it loads, especially as have another question to post tonight lol.
