Careful what you wish for, if PR had been in place in 2015 UKIP would have come third and had 82 seats in parliament. Instead they got 1.
Also - what was the difference between UKIP and the Tories!! UKIP was dreamed up by Tory grandees in any case so as to say the things the Tories couldn't without appearing to lurch to the right, to mobilise populist support, wave the flag at the nationalists and create a fever for Brexit. Masterful!!
I haven’t voted for them for 40 years so I can’t see me throwing my hat into the blue camp any time soon, but if labour get in and don’t perform or welsh on promises I might, and that’s our right!
I do think there is quite a distinction to be made between No 10 activities and Keir Starmers . Primarily about truth. Boris knew nothing, then used all sorts of ridiculous excuses to weasel out. Starmer has been open , ok he was wrong about attendees but has never lied knowingly.
We all have to rub along and I'm sure we all have views that probably span the spectrum of political views. I know I do. Brexit was a seismic shift that shook me to the core not only because of the decision but because of the way such an important step was taken. We are where we are now, I just wish more facts were known more widely about a lot of areas of our lives, rather than the misconceptions/blatent lies peddled by a large number of MPs and a lot of the media.
In a sick sort of way I’m actually looking forward to the next Labour government. Just to see how the media are going to play it. It’s gonna be really hard for the BBC after clambering for so many years to get a Labour government, how are they going to play it if god forbid nothing changes or even if a Labour Minister happens to make a mistake. I will laugh my backside off if Labour abolish the license fee and all the beebs propaganda work ends up being for nothing. I get the impression that Sky News are just anti government full stop, if a Politician says black, Beth Rigby will say it should be white. So I suspect Sky will just carry on the same way, looking to sensationalise any non story they can to whip up as much trouble for Starmer as possible. Starmer,Johnson,Krankie it’s all the same thing to Sky, a ratings game. An interesting one will be LBC radio. Essentially the media dept of the Labour Party. They’ve filled hour after hour, day after day for five years of phone ins slagging off every single government decision, policy, minister etc. How are they actually going to fill their schedules. I guess that most of all I hope that a lot of you are proved to be right. That the socialist utopia that you all wish for, becomes a reality and this country becomes amazing in every possible way and I will be forced to concede that you were right and I was wrong. But I’m not holding my breath.
Don't forget that that although they happen to be the Conservatives, they are the government, they are the ones making decisions. They are bound to get the attention and criticism aren't they? Not much point criticising a party that hasn't been in government for more than a decade and don't have any power at all. I'm not convinced the BBC are pro-labour, you'll see them questioning labour policies just as robustly if labour get in. Historically, the press has been very much biased towards the Conservatives, I think you just don't like "your" party being criticised.
I quite liked him. He was a liar and looked like the Honey Monster. But that’s probably a chunk of what makes a good British prime minister. Better than Mr or Mrs cardboard.
Not at all. I’ve openly said that I couldn’t vote for BoJo again. There’s plenty of stuff they’ve done that I don’t agree with and said so. Lots to do with covid, hs2, lobbying etc etc. I’ve got no issue with a media outlet openly siding with one party. LBC are an openly left wing radio station. GB News are an openly right wing TV station. Mirror left, Mail right. No issues at all. However I do have an issue with the BBC and its editorial slant to get a labour government elected in a covert manner. Just come out with it, that’s fine, but don’t then expect me to pay a license fee to support it. It’s fairly obvious that when the tories said that they will abolish the license fee in the next parliament that the BBC aren’t gonna sit back and let that happen. Of course they are gonna try to get Labour in, they are protecting their own interests. I think most people would. If any of us had jobs and homes and mortgages under threat then we’d do the same and promote the option that’s least likely to damage us personally. But let’s just have the BBC being honest here. Don’t pizz in my pocket then tell me it’s raining.
I liked him at first. In fact I was willing to forgive a lot of his gaffs as I’m prone to believing that a lot of it is whipped up by the Westminster bubble. But the business going on in No10 was a step too far for me. People really struggled with the isolation during covid. They followed the rules. Had Christmas’s ruined. Couldn’t see dying loved ones. Suffered terrible mental health issues and then to find out them wa@@@rs were having a jolly up is absolutely inexcusable. From that moment on he was finished as far as I’m concerned.
