Bora in for 1st mot in my ownership today, scraped a pass thanks to @moley76 and his mate lee who now does my mot's should have failed on broken spring but he let me off as i promised to do it, advisories on a couple of bits (worn bush on bottom arm front and cracked not split cv joint) i've had a knocking on the rear since i had it and we discovered a broken rear spring so he advisoried it and i went and got 2 new ones as they were both not much cop anyway, changed both and all good - apart from the arse end looking like a jacked up 70's hot rod lol - didn't realise how low the back had got! I like garages that trust me and don't give me the grief of going back for retests.
no! i've had 5 people in and a boot full of suitcases though, had 4 bags of sand in the boot the other day.
i could understand if the front had broke with speed bumps and potholes etc, never had a rear go before.
It seems that there appears to only be one spring manufacturer in Germany (Bilstein?) and they are crap!! I broke a rear one on my BMW, and then found out all my collegues at the BMW flight service, had horror stories of broken springs on just about every make of German car. The local garage mechanic here in Somerset says he always has a surge of broken springs when the weather gets really cold......interesting! Tony
no idea who made the replacement springs, can't remember what it said on the box now, might have said status or summat..... euro carparts £75.80 for the pair. edit was sachs.
Glad you are sorted now Rick, when are you putting the big wheels on the back then? And malc hope it is good enough for what you need
yeah easy, euros had 3 different springs a cheap cheap £21 each - out of stock, the middle one i had £36 each and a heavy duty for £46 each, prob go there again i didn't think they'd be cheaper than gsf but i'm happy.
