Bits you buy at shows

  1. At the recent show in Telford I bought a quick release gadget for my battery (because it has a drain I can't find). I asked my mechanic to fit it while he was doing some other work. When I picked it up he had done everything bar fitting the quick releases. He told me to throw them away as they are useless. So I still just disconnect the earth strap to isolate the battery. I was wondering - as a relative 'newbie', are there any other items that you see at shows that you think are a good idea but are not worth buying? What else is to be avoided?

  2. I have a quick release on my LB and have never heard of it being 'useless'

I have fitted loads to leisure baterys and not had a problem.

I would not fit one to the main battery due to the current drawn when starting

I've got quick release terminals on my leisure battery. No problems with them at all.

  6. citroens, yeah i know french rubbish, have a quick release + terminal so they cant be that bad or a manufacturer wouldnt use them

  7. things that you should avoid buying at shows..
a few of us from my local club went to one last year. it was one where the toilets were only the thunderbox type and my mate had the hottest chille on the menu and then regretted it the next day.

  8. Thanks for your replies - so ok for the LB but no good for the main battery. Not a complete waste of £6 then. Thanks John

not a waste at all, a lot of modern cars have them. they are very handy for fire crews at rtc's for disconnecting batteries. its a nightmare trying to get a spanner through a small gap in a crumpled bonnet in the dark at 4am!
