Should I try nipping up the fuel pump, pressure switch, alternator pedestal? [IMG]

  3. Think if it were mine and nothing were loose as such, I'd be putting new gaskets under the fuel pump (both) and also making sure all was good with the crankcase breather.

Fuel pump rod lifts oil through the gasket. The very thin paper gaskets dont totally seal around the fuel pump plastic base. You would need to use a bit of sealant to make it perfect. Or buy a pack of gasket paper and make your own slightly thicker gaskets.

The oil under the alternator stand might be reduced by tightening the four nuts down. Should be two gaskets and a louvred deflector plate in the stack under the alternator.
As its almost an engine out to change those alternator stand gaskets I wouldnt bother yet.

Make sure it isnt just oil blowing back out of the pulley pushed by crankcase pressure - too small or kinked breather hose.

Thanks guys. All confirming my thoughts apart from crank case breather hose, so thanks especially for that bit.
Is it the pipe that goes to the air filter box yes?

The alternator oily bit is probably me being clumsy when topping up the oil!

Yes, the breather typically a 13mm (older) or 20mm ID hose from the oil filler area.

What role does tbe deflector plate do?

In reality leaks can't be stopped by over tightening things, though things can be bent and broken that way?
There is only one way to stop a leak and that is to start afresh with new gaskets, some sealer if you like (I do) and tighten the bolts to the correct torque. Check everything is flat while it's apart. It can be a hassle, yes, but it works.
