That close by my parents. It’s located in the old wire works down Ambergate, which has a long history of local employment for the area & in its time was booming. I don’t know anyone who has been yet but it looks good.
It’s been on the cards for a few years, and, on a plus side, there is The Hurt Arms for a meal and, also close by, some really nice woodland walks. Must be good for tourism. I reckon it’d make a good couple of days visiting the area!
Just booked Dad's Drives this morning .. now I have to phone back on Monday ( the booking lady doesn't work on Sundays) to tell them which cars I want to drive and when I want to come. Bit of a faff and you pay up front before you know when you can go ... but it's their 1st weekend, so I'll let them off.
Was that Johnson's wire Mark .,?..used to have Holly green Fodens with gold or yellow sign writing ..Think it said Jonhson's and nephew ltd .
What Moggy has Sarah got Alex, I really, really regret selling nine a few years ago, it was rock solid, Minilite wheels, Ford Ka leather seats and great fun. This sadly seems to be my only photo.
Yes it certainly was, then Richard, Johnson and Nephew (RJN) for many years. Don't go up to Oakhurst after dark though, its very spooky and weird (former hospital at one time).
They used to have a saying at the back of Foden cabs saying ...It's a Wise Buyer That Buys Johnson's Wire . Or at the side of the cab ...or was it at the back of the trailer .
Do you have to wear tweed knickers when driving a Morris Minor, like the District Nurse? I think it's in the handbook somewhere.
Finally got booked in...only tool 1 and 3/4 hrs to finally get through....she gave me date and times of drives and promised an email....not holding my breath!
