Ive just been down to the garage who are moting the van and the front suspension passengers side is higher than the drivers Its got all new parts on it so im a bit concerned about it Drove it down the road and its bad It does move but not as much as the drivrs side When its on the ramp you can see its out - The ball joints are new as well and i have checked and they are all lined up with the marks The springs were all ok when i put it together Any help please! Marc
any pics of it have you got standard shocks, if you have fitted new shocks did you check the length mite have one longer than the other cant think of much else without seeing it
If it's bad, can't imagine how a mistake in reassembly would cause it. Torsion leaves clamped properly? I'd be tempted to say broken leaves, but you say they're ok. Won't be the shocks.
has the drivers side got more weight ie units down the side? there is a bracket in the beam towards the p/s that holds the leaves ,that may have broke?
I thought it was the front riding high on one corner . Can you pop a few pics up, might get someones grey matter moving.
With so much weight at the back, if the back's out of kilter the front goes with it. If you can jack up the rear dead centre all will be revealed... or jack up the front dead centre. Quicker than dismantling stuff.
yep had everything apart - the van has noting in it at the mow - there rear is all good and is all as it should be - sitting right - its just the passengers side where its sitting higher and when you jump up and down on that side it much stiffer - Looking underneath the arms that hold the ball joints are not equal to the drivers side -I would say the passengers side is 2inch higher - (the arms are lower on that side). Must say took it for a drive - my first ever and it was ok in a straight line - but when I came to corner - wow- it was like driving something for Blackpool pleasure beech - all tyres are the same and all is as it should be - I am just wondering if its the ball joints as they were stiff as hell when I put them it (and I did a line them up) - so its a bit of a pian
I'd double check that you did line them up, it sounds like one I had in the workshop. It was kind of ok up to about 25mph, faster than that was hairy and cornering as you say. If one side doesn't drop and rest hard on the bumpstop that would also point to balljoint. And if you struggled to get one hub fitted to the ball joints.
Well after hours of taking things off – and on – trying another beam – it became apparent that the reason why the front passenger’s side was higher and stiffer was that the rear torsion bars (driver’s side) need adjusting , – this has caused the whole problem – and it’s been big one as everyone has been pulling hairs out. It’s quite odd really as the van sits at the back the same distance on each side – I did check this by looking at the distance between the IRS flat trailing arm and the little bum stops on both side – so I ruled that one out. When I put the IRS together, I has marked it up and when putting in the torsion bar it located on both sides may be 1 or 2mm lower than the bump stop – So the driver’s side rear is being moved by 1 spline – may be 2 – to balance it up What a job – and its taken time and money!!! Good news its sorted – bad news its cost me a few hundred pounds in time Good news - if anyone has this problem when putting it back - I have saved them time and money!!!!!DOH
