    Anyone know anything about this?

It's been in my dads shed since at least I was born and he's probably had it even longer than that.

Anyone know much about these or a storey to tell?

All I know is it looks COOOOOL!

    Does it work?

  3. I'm not sure on size, as there's nothing to give it any perspective.

But if I'm right in thinking it's quite small, it was used to flatten mashed potato on cottage pies in the late 1800s.

Well I know it built up some steam but that took ages, gave up posted on here to see if anybody knows anything.

Dad said just stick a rubber band on it and it'll then work. I'd have been happy just to see the piston do something but I'm to impatient.

  10. Yes its the Mamod steam engine model. I've got two ones a car and the others a wagon. They were made in a place in the Thorns road Brierly Hill which when it closed became the location where they filmed Cross Roads! Parts are still available online, great fun the children now look at them in disbelief (and also vinyl records) no taste these days:rolleyes:

  11. That's definitely cottage pie sized!

Evocative smell wasn't it? My brother had one, that might still be in the loft at me mum's house

  16. I had one along with a draw bar trailer that came complete with 3 polystyrene logs. There was a long handle that screwed into the top of the chimney to allow steering and a steam whistle on top of the fire box. It appears the lever you press for the whistle is missing on yours.
