Bio fuel line kit

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by IZZYBAY, Oct 25, 2014.

  1. Just seen a complete bio fuel line injection kit on ebay from VW aircooled works at £65. All clips and the two dia hoses, they advertise these will last 25 years!. Any one used them or are there any other kits at a cheaper price?

no, i used r9 hose and it didn't last long, leaving fuel in the van whilst laying up seems to break it down.

  9. I bought my bio fuel lines from them, as a kit along with a fuel cut-off solenoid and auto-fire extinguisher. Seemed a fair deal at the time, but as it's only been installed for around 3 months I can't comment on the longevity of the fuel lines. Having seen the rubbish (pipes) I removed, I'm very glad I sorted them out when I did. @VW Aircooled Works are sponsors on TLB and gave some interesting insight on a previous thread here: http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/avoid-a-fire-everyone-should-read-this.38433/page-7.

  10. Hi all yes there is a thread by me on here with Volksbolts doing a deal. Search around. There are a few on here that have put in a request so I will add up the numbers and tell you what discount we will get

  11. That's for R9 hose tho ?

All the classic car mags are saying you should use R7 as its ethanol friendly

The R9 hose I fitted lasted less than three years before cracks appeared; I have now fitted 100% Ethanol proof hose from VW Aircooled Works as mentioned above but they are only retailers, not manufacturers and high quality hose is available from many suppliers.

Fuel hose is made of (at least) three layers; an inner core, a strengthening braid and the outer covering. The inner core on mine was still intact but the outer layer had cracks down to the braid, there were no signs of fuel leakage but the integrity of the hose was obviously compromised.

R7 is less resistant to Ethanol than R9 but in my case it was the outer layer of the hose that had cracked not the inner core in contact with the fuel so it wouldn’t have mattered if it was R7 or R9. Because of this I’m not convinced the 100% Ethanol proof will last the anticipated 25 years and I’ll be inspecting it regularly, however, I wouldn’t use R7 or even R9 in the future.

So what type of fuel line do they use on brand new cars these days? They must have a guaranteed long life or the likes of Ford VW & Toyota wouldn't use them.
