Yes he is. And I've been a U2 fan since 1980 I don't doubt the sincerity and we'll meaning of what he says and does but he just gives the impression of being a bit of a tit. Which is a shame because most wealthy rock stars these days are dullards who try to avoid using their position in the limelight to make any sort of social or political comment.
I love the story about him talking about poverty and suffering in Africa, clicking his fingers and saying to the audience "every time I do this a child dies". I think it was Billy Connolly that said in a sketch "well stop fxxxxxng doing it then" Great music though, they are Ireland's version of the Dixie Chicks for political comment.
It was pretty cringeworthy when he rocked up at the Labour Party conference a few back and said Blair and Brown were like Lennon and McCartney. Almost as embarrassing as when Kinnock did his “Are you AAAALLLLRIIIIIGHT?” Thing at another conference
