    Best teacher ever.
John Nankerville. My art teacher. ( check out his website). Fantastic bloke. Always used to come outside on ‘lunch duty, stand at the side of the field with his binoculars and wave at us, while we were hiding in a ditch, having a fag. ( He didn’t cared, as he smoked, and didn’t want to be a hypocrite).
    Worse Teacher .
Mr Smith. Ex Borstal teacher. He’s seen it all and you didn’t feck with him. (Although my cousin Ju punched him out one day, as he thought it was someone else behind him).
    Happy days.

  4. Miss Craven was ok, music teacher, but she ruined it latterly by getting off with the other French teacher (not Mr Kelly) in the supply cupboard.... I think there was photographic evidence... bring back the early eighties!

I don’t recall any teachers being particularly horrible to me. There were some who were basically bullies, but I was never bullied by them. There was one French teacher who slapped me hard across the face during a lesson, for apparently “smirking”. This was the 70s though, teachers were allowed to do that kind of thing, you accepted it. That was the only time I was ever hit by a teacher though, and as I say, 70s, so not bad going really. I’d like to meet her, tell her that I wasn’t smirking and didn’t deserve what she did and that if it had been my daughter she had struck like that, well, there would have been consequences. What those would have been, I don’t exactly know but she would not have been allowed to get away with it.

Good teachers, well, actually there were loads. I genuinely can’t complain and I genuinely can’t remember any of their names :D

I liked most of my teachers except Stumpy Birch. We had the best PE teachers ever, the science lot were brilliant, my English teacher and mate just died and had the biggest funeral I’ve ever been to. Happy days with good staff at a poorly run school.

I’m with you on the hitting. If someone hit my lads as randomly as some people lashed out back then I’d have a blue fit. If someone took a cain to them I think I’d be in prison!

You’ll always get the “It never did me any harm” contingent. I just remember that at my school, the toe rags who regularly got the cane or slipper or strap…. they were still toe rags afterwards. It made zero difference to their behaviour. Could never see the point in it whatsoever.

I think they had about 12 pupils who went from that school to university from my year and the one below, that’s out of 800 of us. I know at least that many in my circle of ex pupils that have taken a degree later in life including a few who have gone on to Doctorates.

Some teachers cained or slippered you for fun or other pleasure. I got slippered a couple of times by Stumpy Birch!

My mates a teacher and was telling me how he pinned this lad up against a wall, I told him he shouldn't being doing that to one of the kids. He said it wasn't one of the kids it was one of the teachers :D

:rolleyes:Joint best were English teacher, P.E teacher and biology teacher. Probably as I was good at those subjects and they were all a bit off the wall. :). Funniest was my Economics teacher Mrs Hanse she was middle aged, dressed quite frumpily but had a top sense of humour. She once sent me out because my feet smelled (barefoot in black school plimsolls) :)

worst was a teacher I had for commerce who was a born-again Baptist. She didn’t like the cut of my jib and used to pick on me. However, it was unfair so I rallied the class to be on my side which resulted in a two week suspension from her lessons :thumbsup:

footnote - she later went off with the head boy!

  16. Best ??
Mr. Ridsdale , taught woodwork and let me into the classroom at lunchtime to 'make stuff' , also mr. Coulthard who taught metalwork - for the same reason !!
Worst must be another vote for the maths lot , particularly 'Soapy Joe' Lund , demon shot with a board rubber and took great pleasure in slippering nearly everyone in the class ...
Best could also cover several lady teachers I've known 'socially' over the years ...

My memories of school, getting hold of the 6th form girls behind the bike sheds , smoking in the toilets, bending over the headmistresses desk while she caned me …… god I miss that caretaker job
