Are you sure it’s the rocker covers and not the pushrod tubes

Best rocker gaskets i ever had was from Paul Weeding who had them in on a big club together deal can't remember the make mind ...they were way thicker than any i have bought recently ...i just use a smear of Hylomar on the rocker side only. I know you shouldn't have to but it stops mine leaking .

  4. Nowt wrong with a bit of squishy sealant - Hylomar or Curil. It's the half-pound of silicone bath mastic some folk use that's wrong.

I’ve used Permatex aviation sealant. It dosnt dry ‘hard’, so to speak.( I think it’s more for gasketless joins).

Yes. Pushrods ends are dry, seals are new.

  9. That's the kind of stuff you need

  10. why ? You can get some really nice billet ones that utilise a Viton O-Ring .. I’ve machined some for a turbo type 4 engine and they don’t leak or rely on a cork gasket

    Hi Para.
I see what you mean, but I had another look this morning, and I can’t seem to see any fouling of the covers lip, onto any edges. Shouldn’t the thickness of the gasket counter this?

It should but I once had a badly leaking one in the workshop where that was the problem so I thought I'd mention it - it was worth a look as you've tried everything else?

Yes, pretty much, apart from replacing with new covers, springs ad gaskets.
I guess that will be the next thing to do.
Deffo leaking from the bottom front corners.

  19. So which way do you pull the springs off. Are you an up or a down man? I can get mine off either up or down but going back on they have to go up and I have known this to push the seals sideways so they leak. The remedy is to shake the cover about a bit so you know it's in place, then push the spring back up holding on as best as you can to the cover so it doesn't move. Oh and I have the VW symbol inside upside down but that's probably just a bit of mythology.
