    Hey everyone
Got the 2 bow roof rack to store our awning and some bits etc, there is always something else you need :)

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on best waterproof to cover luggage up? (needs to be able to handle loads of rain and keep stuff dry)

Was thinking of some kind of army sheet? Maybe a Tarpaulin?

Would an army Tarp be more stronger and waterproof than a general store one? Need something durable.

Also what size to properly cover luggage on two bow rack? 2m X 2m or 3m x3m???

Anyone been through this before and have good recommendations on whats best?

Guess it needs to look pretty cool on the rack :) so think Army gear is a very good bet as that always looks brill :)

    Links to recommendations really appreciated.

Just incase anyone wants to see the rack for recommendations, its this one...

  2. Put our awning and a few other items on the roof rack once and took them all off after a 20 miles on the motorway! Thought the brakes were binding and slowing the speed, the body roll at roundabouts was not good. So now just put the rolled up windbreaks and rolled up table up there, also no more wind whistle!

You think a large awning will be a bit crazy up there?

Have you thought of not taking an awning at all? Just take a fold away canopy of some sort. Actually you can fashion a pretty nifty waterproof canopy with a bog standard tarp, using pole and clamp to keep it in place

We did 5 years without and was fine. Sure we still could be but have two little ones and its nice at the festival to have the space for feeding and playing when wet etc. Its only on festival and two week holiday we take it. Shorter breaks we do without.

The best thing I've found is a body bag, no moisture can get in.
Handy tip..... find one that hasn't been used. ;)

Oh wow that sounds like a great idea, little bit strange. Have never seen one except Nightmare on Elm Street, but will check eBay.

The thing to do is put stuff that doesn't mind getting wet up there. ;)

^^^ This true. Unless you can find a way to hermetically seal whatever's on the roof rack, if it's raining and you're on the motorway at 50+ whatever, the rain will find a way in. Just saying like......

I use a pair of Ikea bags. I plonk whatever it is in the Ikea bag, then tie the two handles together as you can interlink them and rally get it tight, then I plonk another Ikea bag over the top and tie it up underneath so the topbag is upside down, works a treeeeeat.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,And they is cheap as

Heya Mr Rubble yes its waterproof but a lot of things that say they are waterproof really are not. When there is tons of rain and hitting driving speeds as well Im sure waterproof will be waterproof for 1hour but after 6 hours Im sure it will be soaked. If its in some kind of army dry bag made out of tuff material Im sure it will be much better.

80L size on eBay says 38x38x84cm and awning size packed is 66x28x28cms. Yer we never get it that size.

  19. yeh come to think of it i wouldnt put a duck on our roof rack when we go camping , it usually starts or ends in torrential rain storms or hurricans  n thats the truth:D
