I take this quite seriously so homework is a must and first to find out all that is expected of you as an owner.

So I just wondered if any of you on here has one and can advise :)

This is what I have found on the Internet.

    See below

Bernese mountain dogs are fiercely loyal and attentive dogs. They require a lot of attention as they prefer to be involved in everything. The Bernese mountain dog learns fast, but matures fairly slowly. In [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow][/glow], Bernese mountain dog puppies take around two years to mature. For this reason, training Bernese mountain dogs is different to other breeds. See the following guide to training and caring for a Bernese mountain dog.

    • When looking for Bernese mountain dogs for sale, always check which, if any, vaccinations the dog has had. Bernese mountain dog puppies will require certain injections and boosters afterwards to prevent diseases. An adult Bernese mountain dog requires worming every few months, as well as flea treatments. Check with your vet what is needed.

    • When searching for a Bernese mountain dog for sale, you will also need to buy the correct food for it. High quality meat dog food will be best. This should be a mixture of 30% crude protein, 20% crude fat, and up to 4% fibre.

    • If you are considering a Bernese mountain dog for sale, you must really be ready to commit. These dogs require constant attention and do not like to be left alone. If you cannot provide this kind of care, you may wish to rethink buying Bernese dogs for sale.

    • Bernese mountain dog puppies will need to be trained from a young age. As it is a large puppy, it will need to lean the basics as early as possible. This means it knows how to behave without causing any accidental problems. Training should be simple as these dogs love to please their owners. Harsh training methods will not work on this dog breed. You must be sensitive.

    • Bernese mountain dog puppies should be socialised with other people and dogs as early as you can. They can be very shy later in life if this is not addressed right away.

    • Exercise is key when training a Bernese mountain dog. They are at their happiest when they get to run around.

  2. The wkipedia entry has a picture of a Bernese mountain dog on a mountain - the caption says "Bernese Mountain Dog on a mountain" - unfortunately it doesn't make it clear if the mountain is bernese or not.

  3. If I have to buy a mountain that is brand specific there's no chance

  4. I also live in the fens so there is no mountains anywhere not even a hill flat as a pancake :(

  5. I used to work for a lady who bred them.......
Big, friendly, stupid..........the dogs that is.....
Great pets..........dont need loads of exercise......
Suffer with hip problems.......... but proper breeders will have em 'scored'........
    Go for it!!!! :)

  6. That's what I had heard. Bad on the hips. But as you say they are graded for this inherent problem so we will be shopping around. Got to get some money aside first not very cheap

  7. thought Bertie was one . Not sure now

We had one (George). Big, soft very very funny. We will get another when our youngest is big enough to stand up to an 8 stone over friendly, clumsy dog.

    Sadly no longer with us.

    Would recommend getting one.
