Berlin spare wheel cupboard too small ?!

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Ivor the Westie, Aug 12, 2015.

  1. So I've removed my spare wheel from the front holder as I thought it would be neater to use the cupboard Westfalia had already provided, but when I've tried to fit my (standard size) spare wheel inside it sticks out by an inch or so too much and I can't put the "door" back.

What am I missing ?

  3. The proper door isn't a door it's a cover that sticks out about an inch. I will post a photo later

  4. Mine is quite a tight fit with standard tyre. There should be a wood lip/battern on the bottom of the front cover/door which push fits into a space on the floor of the cupboard and a metal bracket sticks out the top of cupbord where a long screw goes through a hole in cover/door and secures this

  5. Was it originally a space saver spare i.e a collapsable spare

  6. I've got the lip at the bottom f the cover/door and the screw at the top, but when I engage the lip with the sheel in place it's not possible to get the top close enough to screw it up

  7. What's a collapsible spare look like, curious??

  8. I
have to give a hard push to get holes aligned but could a longer top bracket help?

What size is the tyre, should be 185/14c
Is it a factory Berlin ? The side braces for the van are cut out from factory in s Berlin to allow the wheel to fit

  10. Or, keep current on your AA card, leave the spare in the garden and call for help when one gets flat on the bottom. This will allow room in the cupboard for more liquid enjoyment for Mrs. and you both. LOL

  11. This was an option on us westys

  12. yep same as mine and I store loads of spares inside the wheel space

  13. me too!! clutch cable, fan belt, spare TS2, wheel brace

  14. I'm 99% sure it's a stock 185/R14 but I'll have to double check now to be sure
That and a can of tyreweld is what I've done so far, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't being dumb anyway

  15. That's really cool, I too have a can of tyre weld and crossed fingers. Is that a standard wheel and it's the tyre that's special.

Anyone know if you can get these anywhere?

bit late for me now anyway going to spain tomorrow !
