Belly pans - Keep or remove? Good or Bad?

  1. Hi

Just wondering if its worth keeping or removing the belly pan from my van, Apart from hiding potential rust are they worth keeping fitted?

Are they spot welded in place or bolted on like the front one?

    Cheers

  2. have you got side ones or just down middle ?

  3. I didn't realise there was side ones, mine is just the middle one, not like this one

  5. Nice Picture, I want the get some sidies

  6. What year is your van? Initially they were all welded on, then later the middle one was removable. They're worth having on, but there's a good chance they will be hiding a multitude of woes.

Edit, just noticed you said there's no side pans. Much less chance of woe!:)

  7. Side welded ones...chop off, discard. Keep bolted centre one (after you've fixed the rot in your chassis rails...)

  8. mine is a 72, its a uk rhd so i dont expect it to be too good under there :(

  9. I wish our bus was that nice underneath :(

  10. Mines a 75 uk rhd, and to be honest wasn't that bad.. You may get lucky
I've decided to keep all belly pans. It's sorted out all the rot, welded pans back on and will absoloutly fill them with waxoyl. :D

  11. I don't know if you'd noticed but your Bus appears to have fallen over. ;)

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

It's simple - if you're financially and emmotionally ready to face what lies within whip them off, if not leave them be until you are.
There are lots of things like this in bay ownership and IMO the above is good and obvious advice for every situation involving "the unknown".
Have the cash? Have a look. Skint? Spray it with underseal and hope the MOT man doesn't like getting dirty.
