Mine came with one…IN the van. Needs a bit of work doing to it as the edges are pretty rusty. Couple of strips of metal welded down the sides will sort it. The holes are in the chassis for it.
Well I did not know that but then again I’ve only owned it 20 years My 73 Devon has the side belly pans and I just assumed they were one of the options that were chosen by the 1st owner. Thanks for sharing. Stirlingmoz
I'm sure side pans were also standard on twin sliders too as mine had them which i cut off 14 years ago but I'm in going to fit some bolt on ones during this 'taking too long' mini restoration
Someone cut my Devon side panels off before I bought it. They also had to fit this carbuncle inside. I cut that off.
There were none on mine, but it was a tin top, so nothing was cut away to affect chassis/ body strength. That’s why I asked Mike about it, as my bulkhead in it had been cut out to make a walkthrough.
That’s exactly my thoughts until I was replacing some outrigger / jack points for the second time. I’ve now fitted side belly pans coated in hammerite specifically to aid that situation and I’ve still got the pedal pan to help there as I’ve again painted it but I’m trying to sort other issues before nailing it on. Recently I bought some brand new never fitted central pans for next to nothing, another thing on this winters to dooo list, the pedal pan was also on last years list and possibly the years before. Then the other thingy jobby I keep thinking I’m about to sort is the horn wiring and fit that pan and finally muddy flappers to keep the crap out of those rear corners . Every day's a school day I'm sure mine had a 'devon conversion' badge on the back when i bought it 14yrs ago but had no original interior. There were a couple of approx 1.1/2" round holes in the floor behind one of the front seats which i presume were used in the original conversion. It was a 1979 tin top, twin slider, full bulkhead/twin front seat, van conversion windows with soon to be refitted side belly pans and the c post/ roof gussets It's now got a rear floor section with spare wheel well and engine hatch, minibus style window apertures (in progress), factory walk through bulkheads with rear heater vent outlet so basically nothing like original and that's before the Audi 80 1.6 fuel injected engine
I just looked up that engine.. 54HP , max RPM 5500.. it might be even slower than the original 1600 bus, if its not delivering max power by 65-70 mph .. torque curve mismatch with a brick ..
With all due respect bud, these are fifty ish years old, there’s not many that don’t have rust issues and everything that can or may protect them is a good thing in my book. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,not many untouched out there
Different engine mines ADA engine code, 101bhp at 6000 rpm 125nm at approx 3000. Suits the standard 3 rib box quite well but im planning to fit the 1800 single point injection engine 90bhp but 145nm torque along with a t25 dk box once i work out a gear linkage solution.
I've often wondered whether that kluged-on bracket was original or Devon's handiwork. That welding is atrocious.
