belated hi

  1. hmmm - just realised i've been posting and havent introduced myself...bit rude. Currently financing a lazareth-like restoration of a '73 Westy Bay after too many years off the road. She wasn't too rusty - the glass and plastic were fine. And also doing whatever I can realistically do myself in the way of refurb.

Particularly enjoying the posts advising against pretty much what everyone on here is doing!!-ie owning/driving/restoring/coming within 5 yards of anything resembling a Bay or anyone who thinks they want to own one.

Christmas wish is for JK/VWH/C&C/ParcelForce/ etc etc etc to stop sticking the arm in - especially for posting to us folks in NI.

She'll be on the road for next spring/easter - early summer at the latest.....certainly before the end of next season...subject to finance.

  2. Technically you still havent introduced yourself ;)
haha! but welcome to the club buddy! '73 is the best year.

  3. Hi :TTIWWP:

  4. If you have been around for a while like you say I am honestly surprised with your introduction, you should know better ;)

Consider yourself reprimanded and get some pics on of your Bay :D

  7. ok ok - I thought pics were for build threads?? just wanted to say hello.

I'm not all that techno and i'll get sorted with up to date pics - but heres a few old ones to stop the sleggin' - I'm not puttin' up the worst of the starting point until I get some of the current pics up to show how far she's come.

Originally she was sent to the legendary, sadly now late, John Massey over here (first pic). But at the time he was just too busy. John was a total character and, with me at, least liked to start sentences with " I don't mean to be rude nor ignorant...." before going on to remind me how stupid, stupid! stupid!! restoring a bus is. Just when I'd decided to give up he'd lift a tarp here and there with something just beautiful he'd restored underneath and I'd be back on board.

Currently Gav at Northern Retros is currently working his own brand of dark magic on her body. That's following media blasting, extensive welding and more (as it turns out over enthusiastic) media blasting by others -see pics (aint gonna name check them....draw your own conclusions). She had a load of bad welding when we originally got her but ran her for a few years. All that's all been sorted - not gonna be concourse - priority is get her running and enjoyed (the shiny bits will have to be built up over time ) - but she'll be sound as a pound and I'll know as much as possible about her when she's done.

Still on board many ££££s lighter - faith in fellow man has been tested to the limits at times but I've also had some some really sound help along the way.

updated pics to come soon - probably in a different section.

Don't worry it's a long running joke, all new members get asked for photos.

  12. Sorry mate - didn't show up on my phone! Welcome aboard. :)

  13. A picture says a thousand words, not sure that's correct but anyway thank you for the pics & don't worry you will get used to us :D

You already know the secret handshake & that is just by owning your camper, there is a saying that if there's no pics then it didn't happen :)

I look forward to seeing your current pics to see how your doing, oh I must also confess I'm not a big reader as I get bored very easily which is why I like lots of pics :D
