I'm helping a mate to dispose of the contents of a garage belonging to a deceased pal - sorry it seems a bit longwinded. Anyway, we've come across a pair of front indicators and one rear light for a pre68 (??maybe) Beetle. Do let me know if you can identify it properly. Like all of the vintage lights that we've found they are not in great condition; the chrome is pitted, the tail light housing has rust spots and the rubber gaskets are a bit chewed. It's a pity there aren't two tail lights, but the other may turn up. Anyway, they are up for sale and open to offers plus postage at cost, proceeds to his widow. Thought I'd offer them here first.
The taillight is mid to late sixties, before the change to the tombstone style, easy enough to lookup the changeover year. The lens is euro style, worth something if not cracked or dulled, especially if it's Hella. The front lights look earlier but it might be the angle, please send a photo taken from above.
Thanks for that. Yes, all three are by Hella and the lenses are in good condition with no cracks or fading. Photo of the indicators from above:
I reckon they're early 60's, lookup peanut lights and see if they visually match. If they are, they might have some value, depends upon condition.
Edit, I could be wrong but I don't think the two sets of lights were ever on the same model at the same time. The rear is off a pre 70's but the fronts are pre big window, late 50's, perhaps early 60's. The 60's Bugs have wider front indicators, hence yours being called peanuts style, but I would check as you have them in front of you. The samba will tell you a valid etc.
That's very useful. I'm not surprised that the front and rear lights don't go together as it's a strange collection of odd lamps that we've unearthed; right back to a Lucas acetylene lamp!
