Been playing hunt the rust on my camper today...

  1. MOT time is getting close again so i've been playing my annual game of hunt the rust.
Found this hole in the rear most outrigger where its been dented from having an axle stand stuck under it at some point:

An ickle hole in the front inner arch hidden under some filler (likely to get bigger when its wire brushed):

The end of just one single tophat section on only one side of it too:

and an ole in the old tailpipe:

I'm assuming its a failure point.

I need to fix a couple of rusty holes under the windscreen, replace the front shocks and bleed the brakes but i can't find anything else.

Not too bad a day really.

a few easy fixes, nice one buddy!

  3. you want to slab and concrete or tarmac that drive if that gravel is what you usually park on - prime cause of under chassis rust due to ground moisture

Look like simple fixes - you'll get away with that with a can of black wax oil
    ;)

  4. Rented property so no choice other than to keep the gravel. Its mostly mud with some gravel stuck in it. :(

  6. Landlord wants it as gravel.

  7. Can of expanding foam and some tetrashutzs will sort that zeb lol

A bit of metal/ally tape on the exhaust, no worries!

  12. Its odd as the rest of the exhaust is still completely solid. I've got a nice chrome tailpipe trim that i kept when i scrapped my Nova so that might go on. ;)

  13. This is what We did on the bug exhaust. Cut down a Bud can with scissors, then tie-wrapped it on. Past MOT. :)

  14. Classy. :D

  15. Been using wire brush attachment on angle grinder today. If its still solid after being attacked with that its OK.
Some holes grew a little which i was expecting. Loads of dodgy welds and tacked on patches covering rusty metal. Why not cut the rot out before welded new metal in? ::)

Outrigger bottom is knackered though the rest is still solid

Hole in inner arch grew a little (panel welded over rust)

Passengers side cab step had a little hole and felt soft when pushed. So i attacked it with wire brush and...

Door has huge dent in the bottom which was full of 1/2-1" thick filler. Rust holes filled with chicken wire and filler.
