will a 95 amp battery last long for internal lighting ,tap, and propex and ipad

  2. I would estimate that provided the Propex is on a thermostat, the external air temp is not sub zero and it won't be running all night then you should get 12hrs or so before it shuts down on low voltage. I've deliberately ignored a) the illuminations unless you have an affinity for those of Blackpool b) the I pad...its negligable and c) the water pump as its intermittent and low current...unless you have a power shower in which case its too much. :)) So roughly speaking after a period of 12hours or so you could be left in the cold, thirsty, but still able to use the Ipad by the light of a dim lamp.

You need to work out the current draw of your kit and then know the batteries "ah". If you have a 95amp hour battery this will run 95 amps for one hour, or 9.5 amps for 10hours, or 0.95 amps for 100 hours (i think the maths is right?)

Your light may draw 1 or 2 amps, the tap will be minimal as it wont run constantly, not sure what the propex uses, and the ipad is probably only an amp or two.

At a guess I would say yes (depending on condition of battery) - I think you would get a day or two or three out of it

  4. Or it may explode, of course...they're well known for it... :(

well i shall try and get through the v/world week end and see how i go as it is a new 95 amp fully charged,so if i run the engine for a little, how long to recharge, as i have a relay charger fitted

  6. If its all wired up already then disconnect the battery and connect an ammeter in series - with everything switched on you can see the current draw and then work out how long it will last...

Recharge is hard to guess because it will charge your main battery first which will take a good 10 mins at least to replace just the charge from starting the van...

its not wired yet and whats best ammetre to get as im getting this information ready for wiring in a week or so when i get my van back, can you leave a metre connected

  9. You could wire in an ammeter permanently but I would suggest buying a cheapy one from maplins or similar as it will do the job. You can test at home before you set off.

    1. Disconnect your leisure battery (positive lead will do nicely)
    2. touch one probe of your meter on the battery and the other on the disconnected lead.
    3. should read 0 if EVERYTHING is switched off - if you have a clock or radio connected it may show a number showing you have a current draw..
    4. turn on a light - you will notice the meter read how many amps are being taken... if its negative the probes are the wrong way round!
    5. turn off your light, and try something else..make notes of what each appliance draws.
    6. this will help you work out roughly how much time each item will last so you can decide if you need the heating on all night... or need to take the ipad at all!!

    good luck!

  14. Talking of meters you might find it helpfull to hard wire in a Voltmeter, by using a changeover switch you then can monitor both batteries independently. It would need to be a standard analogue auto variety such as sold by JK amongst others, avoiding the flashy ebay digital gizmos as they are not signal damped and the sight of the display dancing about can induce needless panic: :))

Working it out is near imposable as there are to many variables motor homes with fancy electronic control panels cant.

It should be fine for a long weekend as long as you don't have the propex running all the time with the door open.

Running the engine doesnt do much unless you run it for at least 45 min making you very unpopular on site.

Best thing to do is make sure its fully charged with a good mains charger before you leave

  17. I've an idea that a Propex draws 4 Amps.

thank you that will help me work it out

  20. You will get one nights use out of it before your propex wont fire up

Without the propex and using led lighting not having the stereo on a lot with occasional use of the tap(flushing after weeing in the sink)

    It would last a week

The battery can still have a fair bit of life left in it but propex can be vary funny about voltage drops

When its cold enough to use a propex it normally means the air temp is around freezing
At that sort of temperature a leisure battery sat on a steel tray in an uninsulated enviroment can drop a volt on its own

My heater doesent require a 12 volt source but im still going to make insulating battery jackets for my bus

Ive spent a lot of time sorting vehicles out when the temperature drops below zero
If your charging syastem or battery have any faults a good temperature drop will highlight them
