  4. Everyone that has ever taken their camper to a garage has an 'expert' opinion ;)

The truth is, every experience will be different, we all know of those 'simple' one week jobs that turn into far longer than imagined, just flick through the current resto threads and gawk in amazement of what previous owners/garages/mechanics have done. Not having all the panels you need for a 'simple' job can push back the completion date until the next container full of parts comes in!

Find a garage that you trust, cleanliness isn't next to mechanical godliness ::)

I like to see a garage busy, and that means tools, muck, general grubbiness; but if you ask a question the mechanic will answer best they can without treating you like an idiot (even though I'm the first to admit I'm mechanically challenged) and they can find essential tools without having a meltdown or 'borrowing' from the garage next door.

Can they show you recent work? Their work is only as good as their least experienced mechanic or whoever they have working on your precious bus, Is apprentice work supervised? Do they have people you can talk to about the consistent quality of their work?

Best of all, ask around. :)

Let me guess. The tidy garage in the nice workshop with their tools in posh tool box charge more than the untidy one?

  7. yep ,the charge the punters while they clean their spanners and put them away neatly...All my garages have been like Beirut... ::)

Its the same as in any business:
The untidy one may be great, may not be.
Th tidy one may be great, may not be.
    Simple really.

  10. we have a vet ,he looks like he has not slept for a week ,his office is in choas ,but he knows his stuff ,he will not think twice about putting the dog asleep and removing splinters [corn things] from his paws...

down the road is a spotless clinic ,they keep the dogs in overnight and charge a fortune....

My cash is with the butcher... ;D

  11. Have none of you ever heard of the good garage scheme??

If you have exceptional service etc you post a review on the good garage scheme site, if however, you have poor service you do the same. To be part of the scheme the garage must have a good service record so the customers know who is trustworthy.

  12. This just reinforces what I said in an earlier post to many VW specialists are nothing more than >>>>>>>

Before you lob your hand grenades back I didnt say all

Of course they are; the same as any business that supplies a popular market.

Tidiness of a workshop, It has absolutely zero effect on the ability or customer service offered, some of the best restorers/bodyshops around work from dusty, dirty farm buildings.

From working in the trade, and I think I'm stating the obvious, for small places, polishing the floor, painting the workshop, and offering comfy seats in a waiting room with filter coffee served by tidy dolly birds from behind walnut finished reception desks generally... comes 2nd place to earning money and getting jobs finished and out the door.

  15. My bus will only ever go to my local garage who I know well, and to birdy (cos he loves his buses!).

  17. My bus has never been to any garage but mine, except one. That was for an mot and they burned the starter out, the had the gall to try and charge me for a new one.

Needless to say, never going there again.

That Paul Weeding welded mine once. I tell you, he eats so much a pukka garage would have been cheaper... ( ;) Paul)
