Awning attachement tips please!

  1. Have been fed up with the figure of eight attachment for the drive away awning so have purchased the pole and clamp bracket type. Anyone else used one and have any tips, looks like the bead of awning goes behind/under the pole and this then n sits in the gutter and the clamps hold this in place attached to gutter at each end! Any tips will be great, thanks.

Watch where the clamps sit - we had problems with them hitting the top of the sliding door and removing paint. We use figure of eight now.

I suppose it depends on the awning.
I thread the pole through the leading edge of my awning. Mine has a gap in the middle for the central clamp.

  5. Mine has a pocket in the edge of the attachment flap on the awning for the pole to feed through. This then sits in the gutter and clamped at the two ends and in the middle. The clamps can be a bit of a fiddle and also make sure they have some rubber strips inside to protect the paint. If they are missing or perished an old bicycle inner tube can be cut up to make new ones.

  6. Side pole through that then sits in the gutter which I clamp with those plastic sprung market trader type clamps

What they said. There should be a sleeve for the pole to go through with a cut-out for the central clamp. None of this trying to get the bead to stay behind the pole malarkey.

  8. Whs ^... But also be careful to ensure the clamps don't scratch the top of the doors and that the sliding door can open fully without snagging the awning when the door's opened.... i have a nice hole in part of my awning now from positioning it too far forward!

  9. Thanks guys, shall have to have a look at the awning and see if there is a opening for the pole to slide in.
