It started last week. I got the first faint whiff of Autumn. That smell was in the air, still Summer air but with that slight change. I can’t exactly describe it but you just know, that the gentle slide into Autumn has started. Then yesterday morning it was here. Full blown autumn air. It breathes differently, it has a freshness, things sound different, even the birds. I adore Summer. I don’t know what happened to it this year but it never really got going. I love the smell of barbeques wafting over the fence, warm grass and seeing the heat shimmer on the road. But there’s something about the first days of Autumn. The crackly feeling, the fact that you can hear things differently, the crunchiness of the grass in the morning and little diamonds of dew on the plants. When it starts grey and then turns into brilliant blue, you have the perfect Autumn day. See? My last few weeks in the UK and I’m being a typical Brit – talking about the weather. I am so going to miss this. I love our changing seasons!
