    Hi guys,

got a customer who is having difficulty attaching a tailgate panel that we made up. The panel is the standard panel that we and many others use ...is anyone aware of any issue of the holes in the panel not lining up with the holes in the tailgate metalwork? The clips that rotate are being used but still there's a problem.

Any help gratefully rewarded with a drop of karma :)

  2. How about they tape a piece of paper ( lining paper or a sneaky wallpaper sample) to the hatch .
Rub the paper to find the holes In tail gate then press against the panel and see what matches.
    Or something like that

    Hi Delilah

It's not just you. I brought a standard one at the Stafford show a while back and the holes didn't line up on my tailgate. Some did line up and some didn't, which made it more confusing. The holes missed by just enough to make it impossible to fit, but near enough for me to think I could force it on.

I rang the guy who sold it to me and he assured me he had never had one not fit. I redrilled the tailgate and used it anyway. Not much help I know. :)

  9. Mines a converted delivery van but the rear door panel was the only one where the holes lined up perfectly and I didn't have to use self tappers and cup washers. Every other panel in the rear had to be "played" with.

  11. I had to re-drill my tailgate too. I think I got the interior panel from JK, but can't really remember so I may be wrong. As far as I know, my tailgate was the original one fitted on a Westy. Darn pesky thing, faffing with clips. Got me some serious blisters on my fingers too.

  12. I had an original panal van tailgate that rotted and i replaced it with a rot free tailgate of an early microbus and the holes line up ok

Was there a one year only tailgate?

  13. I had a new refurbed panel fitted to the inside of my tailgate and the guy used the christmas tree plastic plugs rather than the metal clips. The whole thing went back together no probs :)

  14. I had one from jk and had to drill new holes, didnt line up with the original westy prototype one i removed

    simo

  15. Im tempted to use 3m trim tape on mine instead of clips as that stuff sticks like snot to a blanket

    Anyone else done this?

I think the holes moved in the mid 70's
    A 73 panel won't fit a 76 but will fit a 68 so sometime between 73 and 76. That's all I know.

There are two different shaped panels for sliding doors as well - some have tighter radius corners at the bottom.

I don't recall ever seeing an original tailgate panel held on with the offset clips....

  20. Think mine were straight chrome headed jobbies originally but then again it was a westy and just a ply panel!
