Slight hesitation.. when its cold and you have a stock preheated air feed this is normal for about the first mile or so. Then the hot air should come in from No2 cylinder head and the petrol should stay in the air rather than making puddles in the manifold.

If you like you can tweak the accelerator pump linkage to provide more fuel from the squirter.

Van now running spot on , the best it's ever run i think. Got the van up to full running temperature ,re-set tick over mixture etc, no difference, then tried moving accelerator pump setting from 85% to about middle diddle, instant result !, hesitancy/ flat spot/ bogging on initial throttle take up gone, Yay !:thumbsup::burp:

  4. Great stuff. For info, all of the 34 PICT3s I’ve “collected” have the accelerator pump set to about 50%/middle.

  7. Before my bus spat a plug out I'd just had new spindle bushes fitted by the carburettor hospital in Rochford, nice to have a refurbed Solex back in bus as the others all come with built in faults. Previously had the same issue with float valve and set mine slightly lower with the 1.5mm spacer to avoid overfill, seemed to be ok even parked on a slope, can't see that amount of fuel difference being an issue in this instance.
I now only use super unleaded to try to preserve the fuel and breather lines and any other rubbery component including the mixture screw washers and inlet manifold boots. Don't know how susceptible all the components are but feel happier.

Round our way all the petrol is E5. So the only way out is better hoses, and / or three monthly checks.

  9. I do both, mind you, not been anywhere for a bit as need to take engine out and sort plughole!!

  10. I had been using super unleaded but now they both have ethanol in so gone back to checking fuel lines every so often...but then again I have fitted 100% ethanol resistant fuel line..

  11. Inspect your fuel filter as well. Just changed mine. new last year. Some usual rusty bits but gummed up due to the ethanol in the fuel. Same gumming up on the mgb. I think the ethanol absorbs water and settles out as a bottom layer in the tank and turns into a gummy suspension. Probably made worse by not driving and filling up often enough.

I am also a little suspicious that some of the unleaded " varnish" is starch / sugar used to feed the yeasts in ethanol fermentation..
