And they don`t come much more local than that bud. That Vintage Speed zoorst sounds a treat without the mega decibel ass churning noise that some of them throw out. Good to meet you too Ian. I`ve made my own coffee now

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I`ll bring a flask next time :p;):)

  2. Next time give me a shout and I'll pop down

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, I`ll check in later fellas,, the pub is calling me

  4. Today I finished building the front end. The only thing I didn't refit was the servo, master cylinder & calipers as I want to give them a complete overhaul ready for the engine conversion.
I then turned the van round & began the rear end strip down.
The only thing left to do is drop the gearbox.
I'm going to mark & remove the spring plates ready for a clean & then fit my new adjustable spring plates.

    What gearbox is it?

  6. I have no idea but the original engine should have been a 2 litre pancake so I'm hoping for a 6 rib for the subaru conversion.
I'm going back up later to get my caddy collected so I'll get some numbers off it if I can find them.

    Excellent!
Mines paired with a 6 rib and its pretty good.
I'd love to go Subarugears box but cant find anyone to do it for me!

  8. I've had my caddy recovered now so spent an hour removing the box & trailing arms.
    Here's a few pics.
Can anyone confirm what box I've got please?

Did you contact Aiden Talbot like I suggested? He does mainly do boxes for water cooled VW scooby conversions but I'm sure I'd read somewhere if it's scooby to any vw he can build a box to suit

  10. 002 is a 3 rib
    091 is a 6 rib.
    You've unfortunately got a 3 rib.

  11. He builds scooby boxes for t25's not sure he likes bay boxes

  12. Is it useable with the scooby engine Chris or is it worth just selling on & sourcing a 6 rib?

Ah, you may be right Chris. I know he doesn't do std bay boxes but as there was something interesting like the scooby powering through it....
I just thought he may be worth a shout as baysearcher has been looking for a while.

I did speak to him but got the impression it wasn't for him really.
    Maybe I'll try again!
@Ianlea73, a 3 rib box will work fine, @Moons had one in his for years. You could go 6 rib but think £600+ for an unknown one.

    Moons likes this.
  15. Thanks I'll start giving it a clean & repaint then.

Yep, I'd say they are strong enough, maybe a little short legged in 3rd and 4th but if you are averaging 60 to 70mph it wasn't terrible on revs.

  17. You could always fit the ring and pinion from a 6 rib (bay or t25) to the 002. TES sell 002 boxes like this called Freeway flier.
Knackered T25 gearboxes are cheap as hell as a R&P donor. ;)

  18. I have an old mate who used to run a gearbox recon shop so I could persuade him to do the work for me.
Do you know what T25 box I'd need as a donor to give me the longer 3rd & 4th gear? If it's just a T25 box ould I not just use the 6 rib from a T25 & fit it straight into my van anyway?
There is a diesel T25 box on ebay now,is that the donor you would use?

I think the clutch arm is in a different place on T25 boxes.

  20. Thanks mate Zed sent me a chart of compatible boxes.
