Aren't all automotive trimmers the same, Dub specialist or not?

  1. I'm lucky, I live only about 10 miles from Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers in Worcestershire. They renowned for being the best of the best when it comes to classic VW interior trimming. They were my first choice (all I need is full headlining, including all around the windows and bespoke carpets throughout, that's it). Alas they're booked up for months and months! And I want my bus doing in a couple of weeks. So, will any old automotive trimmer do? Afterall, it ain't rocket science, is it? Surely, once you've learnt the trade, there's only one way to skin a cat? Or, can there really be a world of difference between trimmers? Is a classic VW specialist always going to achieve far superior results than a 'general' auto trimmer? Surely, if the 'general' auto trimmer's got a good portfolio of photos (which they have), that should be enough to put my mind at ease? I'm just worried because the trimmers I'm now thinking of using (who can do the job in a couple of week's time) haven't done many VW bus headlining or bespoke bus carpet jobs. They said they've done a few, but their initial hesitancy suggested less. Plus, they've no photos of work done on any bus.

So, is it OK to get this work done by a firm not specialising in classic VWs? She's a special bus and needs to be done right.

  5. We have been using a general upholster in our town. He says it's been great to do something different to chinsy sofas and curtains. Then from under the counter he produced a portfolio of sports and classic cars ( even some boats) he's done over the years.

Have to say his work has been top notch ;D

So you could try someone like that.

  7. Ours is going in to be done in a couple of weeks. The slot was booked 6 months ago with a specialist.

  9. Delilah here did our interior cards and very reasonable and good quality too. :)

  11. Ours used to upholster hearses . He did a brilliant job on Arthur.

BTW Mrs MH, for some reason I don't think I've ever seen a pic of Colin's interior (it is Colin isn't it??!). WOW. Gorgeous units, gorgeous layout and of course gorgeous trim too O0

  12. I wouldn't use a "specialist" for the very reason that their prices always seem so over inflated. Personally, I think if someone is good at their trade then it shouldn't matter what the vehicle is.

I think it's a bit different when it comes to tuning, engineering etc, but trimming?

At the end of the day, if the job isn't done to an expected standard, then I wouldn't pay. I would expect it to take longer if it wasn't a specialist, but I would expect the quality to be just as good.

  13. Hey Mrs MH, that interior is brilliant. Where did you get your units made? Did you make them yourselves? That's exactly what we wanted, but better.
