In short, I need to "medically retire" and I want you tax payers to underwrite it.

PM me with some advice please.

Before I get the right-wing fascists mailing me - &%$* off. I ain't a scrounger, I'd do anything to avoid this, but I've run out of options.

    Thanks.

  3. may be worth trying a union like GMB for advice. you don't have to be employed to join and they'll give financial and legal advice :)

  4. Oo kettle, black. ;)

In all seriousness get yourself a meeting at CAB they should get you all the paperwork you need and offer advice on your options.

Had a PM or two and think with woody's reply I wasn't very clear..

Actually I don't need to wing it! My surgeon (problem 1) offered me a 2 year sick note "to get me going" without being asked 4-5 years ago. I was a bit put out TBH and started Zeds garage instead as I thought I'd manage that with my probs, and it went ok for a while.

Now I've got early onset arthritis in my neck as well and have to be really careful what I do to avoid agravating it. I soldiered on for a bit at the garage, but one false move and I'm fooked for a week - I've been told by the spine specialist to "behave". and they suggested I take a few-6 months off work. Not easy when you work for yourself/rent to pay etc which is why I folding the garage biz.

What I was after was a bit of a hint at what I might be in for and how to go about it - I'm innocent!

Not a waster by nature, I've provided my own employment for 25 years and provided about 20 man-years well paid employment for others in that time as well, but I can't think of a job I can now do for more than a few weeks without further probs.

If I could find a job that involved strolling around chatting I'd be fine. :)

  11. I took it on the chin, you felt I was having a dig at restorers and it struck a nerve. Say what you want about me just don't involve my family. I also know your having a hard time of it all so took it as heat of the moment.

There is plenty of help for people out there that need it, housing benefit (not council but rent support) council tax benefit, incapacity benefit, food allowances so on and so on.

Oh and for anybody that feels like getting in line for a pop, not that it's anyone's business but the missis is working, I'm a stay at home dad and we are not 'scrounging' on benefits anymore.

:) let's all let it lay now

  12. [insert socio-political comment here] the welfare system is there to support. it's its purpose.

First stop CAB then. Thanks for the pointers. This is going to be short term until I sell the house, then they'll strike me right off whatever I'm getting coz there'll be money in the bank for a minute no doubt, but I've got to live until I get to that point? Normally I'd muddle through, but I'm not fully in control with the ex being, how shall I put it? - Slow. You can't plan for endless procrastination...

  14. sorry to hear this zed , i hope you get sorted , owennw ;)

  17. Go and see the cab, great first stop.

You might find that after a year or so of proper rest that your body heals good enough to go back to work. The exact thing happened to my mate, always worked hard but damaged his back so he was pretty useless. He was told to rest, and not just half an hour at the end of the day, properly rest otherwise he might not be able to walk in a couple of years.

He had just over 2 years rest and now he's back working and never felt better.

    Hope you get better
