Just been thinking about the van at work (as I often do!) and I was wondering if any of you guys have done this? Would be nice to have some more natural light from up top if possible although it might cause an issue with leaking etc
Don't do it, you have to gut through the ribs that give the roof it's strength, it may be ok for a while but eventually the roof WILL sag and it will leak and its difficult/impossible to reverse
On other people's stuff yes, have a t25 with a skylight cut into the pop top in at a friends at the minute and having to remove the top, reinforce the roof, re-headline and repair and paint it just to fix a leak. The t25 roof was made with a reinforced hole to accommodate the skylight but it was made bigger when a new skylight was fitted which removed the strength. Westy bay roofes were not made for it and will sag with the weight of the skylight over time. I personally wouldn't do it. Also done a few Devon roofes leaking because the skylight has sunk, once it sinks the rain sits on the roof and sags it more, more rain more sag and so on
Good advice I saw a doormobile when I was looking for a van and I liked the fact you could look out of the windows when standing up with the roof raised. I suppose with the westy I can just unzip the sides (if it ever gets warm enough!)
Yeah I think the three windowed canvasess are a better solution, maybe it's possible to make some zip in plastic windows to fit the westy top, keep warm and have light, oooo I'm gonna patent that idea
Thats a good idea.... I saw one on ebay that had a full clear plastic "canvas" which looked a little odd. Imagine trying to sleep in that!!!
I would keep the canvas bit, in this county I would think a Zip in window would be more usefull than a mosquito net. Win win
I've got a skylight in the front(used to have an air on unit). It's horrible but it does let might in. I will be plating over the whole so the skylight will be available if you decide you do want one.
why not get a sunroof's from a scrap yard, they come with there own frame. thats the benifit of a doormobile roof on my camper 2 opening lites and 2 windows...
Has anyone done it to a devon moonraker roof? Id love some more light in the back with the roof up or down, do you have the same strengthening and leakage issues with thw devon roof? Thanks Bruce
