  3. we were registered 1/1/74 so struggling with the DVLA and probably paying for 6/12 tax tomorrow just so I can drive the van again

  4. That's crazy, you would think that was easy.... if its registered 1/1/1974 then it has to have been built before that date. Damn jobsworths!

  5. Sad news. In the continued quest to get tax exemption.
Our van was fabricated in Germany, and assembled in South Africa in May 74 :( South African paperwork said July 73 and DVLA say first registered as mentioned before on 01/01/74. South Africa and the DVLA gave me false hope.
Thanks to the really helpful man at the VWOC GB for shedding light on it all . He also says SA M-Plates will be different.

  6. That sucks. I guess the only good thing is that it's now a rolling year, and so means you'll be historic tax next year, but a shame you need to wait till then. Interesting about the SA plates too.

  7. Just dug out my V5c and it says date of first registration 20/9/1973 does this mean (surely) I can take it to the post office To prove its tax exempt?

  8. Yes I believe that you can just take it down to the Post Office, the problem is when the registration date is after the 1/1/74 and the build date (which is pre 1/1/74) is not shown

  9. I'll give it a go and see
