Anyone recommend an interior company for cookers, fridges, electrics etc?

  1. My super viking needs a little TLC on the inside and I need someone to take a look at the interior for me, it needs a cooker as it has been taken out, I don't think the fridge and the extractor fan works and I would like the electrics checking over. Most of the interior companies I have looked at online either concentrate on soft furnishings or complete interior fittings, does anyone know who might be able to do this for me? Ideally based in the North West. I've emailed Vanwurks but think it might be too small a job for them

  2. Sounds like you need an electrician rather than an interior company. Whereabouts are you in the North West? Also, do the interior units need refurbishing, modifying or replacing, as this will dictate who you'd need to speak to....?

  3. I'm in South Manchester but the van is currently in Oldham. The units themselves are in good condition and I'm going to do the upholstery and curtains, it's just the actual equipment that needs looking at. It's going to be a renter so needs to be spot on.

  4. Thinking about it: most of the conversion companies generally do interiors to their own spec, with modifications done at the owner's request, before installation. It's not that they couldn't do the work that you're suggesting, it's more to do with how much time it takes, and how much this eats into their 'normal' routine.

So basically, you need to buy a suitable cooker and have it installed (definitely a cooker...not a double burner/grill?)
The fridge and the extractor are fitted but not working?
By 'checking the electrics' I'm assuming you mean testing all the relevant circuits for charging batteries, interior lights, water pump etc. but not the van side of things?

And with it being a rented vehicle...you'd like it all to be 'passed off' and certified for insurance purposes...?

  5. yep that's right (and yes I mean a burner not a cooker!). My insurance doesn't ask for a certificate but it would be useful to have one. The mechanical side is all under control, it's just the living/ camping equipment, leisure battery, sockets, that sort of thing.

Like you say if I want to find someone to install a whole new interior it's easy but for just getting it up to spec it's a lot harder!

  6. Your going to need a gas safe registered LPG installer to sort your gas , you will need a yearly safety certificate if your going to hire out the van.

  7. You may be better approaching one of the bigger companies like Barrons, (in Leyland) or Leisure Drive (in Bolton) who could provide certification for the gas/electrics. I know they do motorhome servicing....but it will be pretty spendy.
I could do it, and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of others on here who could, but I couldn't provide accreditation...which as @the bugcatcher has pointed out, would be essential for a rented vehicle....regardless of what your insurance company tell you...

  8. Thanks I'll look into them, I've set aside a fair budget to get it right so hopefully it won't shock me too much! I really don't want to gas or electrocute my customers though, they might not come back :)

  9. I'm not trying to rain on your parade....just thinking of the potential consequences:thumbsup:

  12. Im not certified either in gas or electrics
However that aside i have spent many years working on and helping out with vw campers
I own one myself that is nearing the end of a restoration

I have family in bolton who i like to visit but the fuel cost stops me visiting them as much as id like
If you were willing to cover my fuel cost and feed me a cup of tea and a bacon butty
Then id happily tie in a look over your bus with a visit to my family
If its a simple job of returning your camper to how it was originally then i can do that for you at a very reasonable price
If it modifications and modernisation then i may also be able to do that for you but the time scale and price may be different

Im an aircraft tech by trade and i served in the forces for 13 years so you can be assured i wont cut corners

As i said earlier if you want me to come and take a look and wright you a check list of what needs doing
So you can get a motor home pro in then all it will cost you is my fuel and a meal

If you want me to check over the rest of your bus mechanicly whilst im there it will be a bottle of good scotch aswell

Im a bolton lad myself but im not thick in yed
