Anyone know how to pressurise a Firetec extinguisher?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Bertiebot, Aug 14, 2020.

  1. Hi all

I fitted a Firetec system in the engine bay of my bus quite a few years ago and the pressure in the system is now outside the "green" on the gauge so I need to get it re-pressurised. No idea where to go though and I am loath to strip it out to send it off unless I have to. Hopefully it can be done with the extinguisher in place.

Has anyone else had to do this? Looks like there is a valve near the gauge for this to happen IMG_5294.jpg

    Cheers

  2. Usually extinguishers need to go to be serviced by proffesionals to recharge but that might be a company insurance thing.

  3. I've come across a chap called vwJim down near Basingstoke who can do it though not heard back from him yet. Apparently Firetec aren't really operating these days so if you have one you can't simply go to them. Jim apparently bought the correct kit to do it and offers re-gass as a service.

  4. Or maybe any extinguisher recharging company? They do need topping up from time to time.

  6. I spoke to a fire extinguisher chap from firestop systems about mine, he said if its a foam one I'd be fine to just stick a bike pump on and top it up, if it's powder he said don't touch it as it will be a nightmare and make a big mess!!

  11. Current issue is finding a pump that can do 13 to 15 bar. All the ones I can see only go up to 150 psi which is 10 bar. Still searching!

  12. Front fork bicycle pump - up to 300psi .
Chain reaction cycles do them for about 17 quid

  15. I found a super cheap electric pump on amazon for £10 that allegedly does 250psi so should be all good.
