anyone got KYB GR2's up front?

  1. After dropping my bus down a couple more splines the OG front shocks were bottoming out so I have fitted some KYB GR2's as they were the only ones I could find at a reasonable cost that were short enough compressed - think they went down to 235mm from memory.

They are a bit harsh driving over small bumps, etc.

Has anyone else got these and do they rate them?

Surely there are softer shock absorbers out there for lowered buses. Mine isn't slammed...

I have had them and agree, but you probably need the damping.
When I raised it again I kept them (flipped spindles so same shock). but I was bouncing all over the place still so I fitted oil filled standard shocks and the ride is smooth. Having been round the loop the only way to a truly smooth VW ride is stock.

  4. I have GAZ 35 point adjustables all round ,lowered at rear 2 splines i think and a front adjustable beam and heavy duty anti roll bars front and back. The ride is ok unless a bump is hit but i am playing around with the settings -- going a bit softer i think .
My bus sits pretty much the same height as yours Grub and i have the same wheels now but the tyres have a higher wall .

I had these fitted on my cut and twist lowered bay. I preferred them to stock when banging on corners. Banging stopped and rubbing started.
Then I trashed the antiroll bar on Irish roads -bog roads with lumps of concrete and tarmac to Clonmacnoise and amazing brand new potholes in a brand new Dublin out of town complex.
Quite often the top speed was down to 20 mph because of rubbing with just the kyb shocks and the roll bar.

I then had coilovers fitted and went up one inch instead of having the antiroll bar at all.
Now its very bouncy but it does not roll or rub any more unless I try very hard.
And it doesnt nod or flick from side to side in the same way as with the roll bar.

  6. got them all round on split and i think there spot on, a firm ride but not too hard even with 45 section tyres and slammed.
sure its not on bump stops now you've lowered it more and fitted shorter shocks that dont bottom out first?
