I am looking at replacing my Daily Kia Sedona with a T4 Caravelle. Went to look at one the other day but it had a bit more rust than I thought it would have. How bad are they for rust, considering they are a VW i thought they would be pretty good.
a lot of T4's are in fantastic condition mate , You just need to find the right one. I had one as my 1st ever work van and I'm considering looking for a low miles good cond one again . My 1st one was 10 years old when I bought it & completely rust free and original paint ....although the engine was poop
the one I saw the other day is a 2001 Caravelle, Engine wise it seemed fine but it needed some rust treatment and possibly a bit of welding. the passenger side sill was a bit crusty and around the windscreen. rear brakes needed doing and there was a knock in the front right suspension, probs just a bush.
Mrs LMPD has a T4 camper, bloomin' marvelous it is too, only thing I would say is - get a 2.5 and avoid the 1.9 as they are a bit under powered!!!
Im running a T4 as my daily work van. Bought it last year with 89000 on clock its now got 135500 had a few bits done, how ever i agree with LMPD get the 2500 5 cylinder it pulls and pulls. Rust wise mines got 1 wheeel arch going, filler cap cover, and some small bits on the cills, it is a 2001 so not too bad. Join T4 forum i did. modified mileage hope you are happy now
i just picked up a 2002 2.5tdi lwb t4 with 6 seats, all carpeted inside, lowered on alloys. cost me 4750 and runs like a dream, has 113000 on the clock and no rust whatsoever! there are good ones out there. try not to get one that was once a builders van! i'm on the t4 forum too dog tlb is my username!
I had two T4 work vans in the past, and now have a T5... I think the T4 has better build quality... I don't think the T5 will last as long..
I've got a T4 2.5LWB and it's great. I've put a Canon's Forge full width bed in the back, middle row are mini bus seats. Been away for a couple of weekends with 2 adults and 5 kids with all the 'stuff' involved........ it pulls like a train, cruises beautifully. Also use it as my daily too. i love it!!!! Check the cam belt has been done recently and the water pump was changes at the same time, both need doing every 40K ( told to me by a man whose T4 had over 750k on the clock!!!)
well i have agreed to buy one. of to collect from Portsmouth tomorrow!! gonna be a long long long day
Mammoth trip to collect the car is on for tomorrow. 6 1/2 hours by train then 5 1/2 hrs driving back!! leaving at about 0630 tomorrow morning and hope to be back by 10pm!!
