Anyone done one of those DNA ancestry things?

I have been doing family history for some years now to trace my family line back as far as I can and learn about the folks and their lives, what they did and where they lived and a whole lot more, like in "who do you think you are" tv programs.

I enjoy it, and so much of what you discover makes you be grateful we live at this time, even though so many modern folks moan about their lot. Most of us probably would not survive the hardships the ancestors faced.

I suppose the DNA testing stuff may be interesting up to a point, but its the act of going on the family history research journey and learning real stuff about the ancestors that does it for me.

My daughter purchased an Ancestry DNA kit for the missus at Christmas, as she looks quite Mediterranean and the results were fascinating - she is mostly south European, with a small part Pacific Islander. The most interesting part though was that she was less than 6% indigenous British, which caused a stir with both her parents, who are now checking theirs as both voted for Brexit and have had some teasing from me. Daughter put on the card that 'your roots are my roots' which was nice.

 

Next time she visits her parents, get her to wear a grass skirt ...

 

I've been trying to get her to wear one and do the dance, just for me tho......
